Charlie on President Obama

Nailed it.

I LOVE THAT HE NEVER FORGETS

I’ve never been a fan of Obama, and it’s refreshing to see that others are starting to see through his shit as well.

OMG THIS.

I was just talking about this at dinner with some friends who saw that Daniel Day Lewis/Obama sketch.

Minimum-wage laws date to the 1930s, and supporters in Congress at the time were explicit about using them to stop blacks from displacing whites in the labor force by working for less money. Milton Friedman regarded the minimum wage as “one of the most, if not the most, anti-black laws on the statute books.”

When you artificially increase the cost of labor, you wind up with surplus labor, which takes the form of unemployment. Younger and less-experienced workers—a disproportionate number of whom are black—are more likely to be priced out of the labor force when the cost of hiring someone goes up. Prior to the passage of minimum-wage laws—and in an era of open and rampant racial discrimination in the U.S.—the unemployment rate for black men was much lower than it is now and similar to that of whites in the same age group.

Today, unemployment stands at 7.9% overall but is 13.8% among blacks (versus 7% among whites), 14.5% among black men (versus 7.2% among white men) and 37.8% among black teens (versus 20.8% among white teens). Yet Mr. Obama has proposed increasing the minimum wage by 24% to $9 an hour to placate his union supporters who want less competition for their members. A higher minimum wage might lift earnings for existing workers—provided they keep their jobs—but it also reduces job opportunities for millions of people out of work.

Out of political expediency, Mr. Obama is putting the interests of Big Labor ahead of the urban poor.

"

Jason Riley: Minimum Expectations

As a member of a Hollywood union, I face a sort of minimum wage hurdle of my own. The next step up in my career is a substantial one - and one in which I am more than capable of making (a position I held - with, in fact, greater pay - on a number of non-union reality shows). But because of the union, I cannot take that position without being paid the union minimum for that position. In other words, the studio and producers would have to pay me the same rate they would pay a multiple-Emmy winner with 30 years of experience. I cannot offer to work for less as an opportunity to prove myself. I have no leverage - I cannot offer any incentive - for producers to hire a [relatively] young and eager talent over a reliable veteran. And indeed, I have missed out on multiple jobs precisely because of this artificial price floor.

I’m still in the middle of tweet-ranting, so those will be up soon.

In the meantime enjoy this video from what I’m now referring to as, “The Lupe Fiasco”.

Best quote from the video is a snippet of Lupe’s rap:

“Limbaugh is a racist, Glenn Beck is a racist, Gaza strip was getting bombed, Obama didn’t say shit.”

[Ironically enough, the organizers’ official statement about why he was escorted offstage was “crowd dissatisfaction”, so ignore the people dancing and shouting “Whoo! Lupe!” in the video, they were part of some other crowd.]

enemyofthestatist:

Mid-set famous Chicago rapper Lupe Fiasco was thrown off stage for ranting against Obama and his wars.

In previous interviews, Lupe Fiasco had stated:

My fight against terrorism, to me, the biggest terrorist is Obama and the United States of America. I’m trying to fight the terrorism that’s actually causing the other forms of terrorism.

You know, the root cause of terrorism is the stuff the U.S. government allows to happen. The foreign policies that we have in place in different countries that inspire people to become terrorists.

It is unclear why the event’s organizers invited him to perform in celebration of Obama’s second inauguration.

Lupe Fiasco played one anti-war, anti-Obama song for thirty minutes, which included mention that he hadn’t voted for the president. When event organizers asked him to move on to the next song, he refused and was then escorted offstage by security guards.

Unless the risk you take is having different ideas than the majority, and speaking for what you believe in.

America Approves

Everyone at work seemed preoccupied with celebrating “their” electoral victory today, so I decided to preoccupy myself by making these.

If you voted for Obama, you not only registered your approval of the things you like, you also officially condoned the many atrocities he’s committed and corrupt policies he’s championed. Congratulations, you’re an accomplice to heinous acts.

If this offends you, there’s hope for you yet.

I understand that this post is what one might call “inflammatory”. And I’m sorry if it doesn’t put forth eloquent arguments rather than provoking pictures. But dammit I’m not sorry that I don’t take murders, assassinations, drone strikes, and blatant trampling of civil liberties as lightly as so many others seem to.

For all those of you saying, “Well yeah but Romney would have been worse,” this is not about ROMNEY. This is about what you sanctioned when you voted for Obama. All I hear when you say “Romney would have been worse” is: “Well Obama has only had thousands killed so far, and I’m pretty okay with that because Romney would have hundreds of thousands killed probably.” Are human lives really worth so little to you that you view them as just numbers? Guess what, you’re not supposed to be okay with ANY amount of murder, the fuck is wrong with you people?

You hypothesize that Romney would have been worse? So, MORE Corporatist? No, they’re pretty equal on that level. MORE for the NDAA? Nope again. MORE Deportations? A Republican President doesn’t have more power in this than a Democratic one, so since they’re both clearly for deportations, I doubt there would have been many more. MORE extrajudicial assassinations and indefinite detainment? OBAMA opened that door, so any future president who walks on through it has solely him to thank. MORE killing? Sorry to say this but the President only has so much power to bomb so many places. The only reason Obama hasn’t maxed out his authority in this is because of goddamn people like you, sugar-coating it, ignoring it, telling people it’s okay. If Romney got elected and continued Obama’s killing spree, people would be OUTRAGED and protesting and causing a fuss which would ultimately stem all the “Oh no, go right on ahead and keep bombing the brown people” mentality, and hell the wars might even end sooner due to people being so pissed. It’s too bad you’re too damn hypocritical when it comes to a so-called “Liberal” president, who decided he loved teh gays again conveniently right before this election.

So yeah, no. The President isn’t Commander in Chief of your vagina or the gays, he doesn’t have as much power in those areas as he does in the goddamn bombing of innocent people, therefore I doubt Romney would have been that much worse than Obama.

TL;DR- The lies you tell yourself about the evil you choose not being “as evil” as the one you didn’t choose, does not negate the fact that YOU. CHOSE. EVIL.

That’s what your stupid ass get, GOP.
THAT’S. WHAT. YOUR. STUPID. ASS. GET.

Okay, I feel the need to explain this post since I see SO. MANY. PEOPLE. seem to be misinterpreting it. Or hell, maybe I’m the one misinterpreting it, but in any case, I’d like to explain what I think this post means.
Leading up to this election the GOP made it abundantly clear that they have zero respect for Libertarians, going so far as to very publicly call Ron Paul and his supporters “crazy” every chance they could get. Why treat us respectfully when they don’t need our vote? Except, they did. The Libertarian vote made the difference in several states, whether it be because they voted for Johnson, or because they voted for Obama out of fear of Romney, or because they didn’t vote at all.
What that means is NOT that Romney should’ve tried to pretend to be a little Libertarian. It is NOT that Johnson shouldn’t have run so that Romney could have won. It means the GOP should’ve gotten their heads out of the asses and realized that if they wanted to have even a chance of winning, they needed Ron Paul as their candidate.
So yeah, that was my interpretation of this post.

"THANK YOU AMERICANS FOR MAKING THE SYSTEM WORK! Romney sufficiently scared the shit out of people and we got out there and voted for our freedom. Yes, freedom should come first. Yes, above economics. FREEDOM."

Direct quote from someone on my Facebook.

Yes. The guy who signed the NDAA and authorized the murder of American citizens and continued the Patriot Act and countless other horrible things = FREEDOM.

Obama for freedom, guise.

May as well just say it: “FREEDOM. Above the lives of brown people.”

libertarians:

I didn’t go anywhere near a ballot today.

And, as the next president bankrupts this country and bombs others, I’ll rest well knowing that I hold no responsibility for it happening.

Can’t say I’ll rest “well”, but I’ll rest better than had I succumbed to choosing the “lesser of two evils”.

(via benevolentoverlord)

Not long ago, I attended a speech by Obama, along with thousands of his adoring cheerleaders formerly known as citizens. I asked him to stop killing people in Afghanistan, and the Secret Service asked me to leave. But, just now, I got a phone call from the local Obama office. They had my name because I’d picked up a ticket to attend the speech. The young woman wanted to know if I would come help phone other people. I asked if she was familiar with the president’s kill list and his policy of killing men, women, and children with drones. She said she knew nothing about that but “respected my opinion.” She hung up. Objecting to presidential murder is now an opinion, and willingness to be aware of its existence is an appendage to the opinion. If you don’t object to presidential murder by Democrat, then you simply arrange not to know about it. Thus, in your opinion, it doesn’t exist.

Some of my friends at this moment are in Pakistan apologizing to its government and its people for the endless murderous drone war fought there by our country. They’re meeting with victims’ families. They’re speaking publicly in opposition to the crimes of our government. And my neighbors, living in some other universe, believe most fundamentally, not that one candidate will save us, not that the two parties are fundamentally opposed, not that a citizen’s job is to vote, not that war is all right if it’s meant well – although they clearly believe all of those things – but, most fundamentally, they believe that unpleasant facts should simply be avoided.

[…] If you try to think of something more evil than what we are now doing, you’ll fail. Name your evil: destroying the earth’s climate? President Barack Obama flew to Copenhagen to single-handedly derail any process for protecting the earth’s atmosphere. The only way in which to fantasize about greater evil is quantitative, not qualitative. We could drop more bombs. We could starve more children. We could experiment on more prisoners. In fact, this is what Lesser Evilism amounts to. A Lesser Evilist today is not choosing less evil policies, but the same policies in what he or she hopes will be lesser amounts.

That might be a rational calculation within a polling place. But living it prior to and after an election, apologizing and cheering for one of two teams, as if self-governance were a spectator sport, is nothing other than complicity in the most hideous forms of cruelty and murder. That complicity is insidious. Evil begins to look like something else, because the Lesser Evilist, within his or her own mind, comes to view the Lesser Evil forces as good, if not glorious, if not saintly.
